smallfry 2006 Grenache Nov 08

This vintage has sold out at cellar door but was supplied for comparison purposes, it is sealed under screwcap. Some oxidative handling characters dominate the sawdust oak notes. A very drinkable wine with a lovely mouth feel, it holds great appeal. With strong, deeply-seated fruit firmly in control, it’s backed by unobtrusive, smooth tannins and fresh acid. An ample-weight, harmonious wine that will become seamless as it matures, it finishes very long and with good intensity. There is excellent interplay between the sweet and savoury elements and although it is sweet on the uptake, it is tart on the finish. Raspberry, milk chocolate and black fruit flavours are tangy and contrast well with the sweet and smooth nature of the wine. Rated as Recommended with *** for value, the rating will improve in the short term. This is one I would be happy to drink.
