Zema Estate 2004 Family Selection Cabernet Sauvignon July 07

The bouquet screams high quality, varietal Coonawarra Cabernet with toasted, cedary oak, pristine, lightly scented dark fruit notes, and cigar box characters.  Perfectly balanced and constructed, this is simply the best wine I have tried from Zema, and I have been drinking them for well over a decade. Muscular-weight, it's firm, solid, tight and has a well developed complexity. Seriously good  quality and worthy of cellar space, it has all the components but demands time to show its true worth. Abundant, dusty tannins frame the perfectly ripe, deep fruit which fills the mouth with blackberry, hints of herb, raspberry, cigar box and controlled, toasted oak.  Finishing long, the slightly piquant acid lifts the whole profile. Rated as Excellent with **** for value, its sealed with a cork and should peak around 2014 and beyond.
