Yarra Yarra 2002 The Yarra
Yarra PlonkOz04
I could be smart and say, "I wonder what brain surgeon though
up the name for this wine" but it did take a person with brains and talent to
craft such a fine wine. The bouquet was understated, sedate and classy, showing
little more aroma than blackcurrant. One small sip and the sensational structure
is immediately apparent. Abundant tannins, unobtrusive acid and deeply seated
fruit combine to form an ample-weight wine that is firm, rock of Gibraltar
solid, and tight as a Scotsman's purse. Blackberry, black cherry, chocolate and
a hint of mint show a penny's worth of the riches that are stuffed into that
closed purse. A top-quality, long term serious wine with an impressive
structure, it is rated as Excellent
with *** for value but that rating is bound
to improve in 2012 and well beyond as the wine approaches its peak. A potential
classic.
