Wirra Wirra 2002 McLaren Vale Shiraz PlonkOz04

I must admit that in the past, I have not been a huge fan of this wineries output. They were clean and well made but to my palate, frequently lacked interest, but I can honestly say, I did not find anything to criticise when I tried the lineup at Plonk Oz.

Although there is about 2-3% Viognier in this wine, it is well controlled and overt with lifted chocolate, lots of dark spice and just a touch of apricot. Pure, obvious fruit is doing all the talking and its good speech; the tannins are smooth and in support. Spice, pepper, dark chocolate and plum flavours have good persistence and finish dry. Ample-weight, the consistency is firm, and the solid structure has some elegance. Complexity is diverse but harmonious and its a good drinkable crowd pleasing wine that would be difficult not to like. Rated as Recommended with **** for value.
