Winter Creek 2002 The Old
Barossa Blend Sept 03
This is a blend of 75% Grenache and 25% Shiraz and retails
for $23. Raspberry, subtle spicy pepper chocolate and earthy notes dominate the
bouquet. Whilst the wine has a fair wack of Grenache raspberry sweetness to it
there is a good contrasting savoury element to the wine from the dark, at
times, almost bitter chocolate and light pepper which is further enhanced by
the acid. Harmonious by nature, whilst the wine doesn’t have a huge amount of
complexity (it is a Grenache based wine) but it’s damn good and perfectly
constructed to boot with a long finish; that’s high praise from me! Ample in
weight its packed full of flavour without being heavy and has just enough tannin
to hold it together. This one
would be perfect with pasta and a rich tomato based sauce. Rated as Recommended with **** for value this is the sort of wine
that disappears fast as it glides past the tonsils seamlessly.
