Whitsend Estate
2003 Cabernet Sauvignon
Nov 05
The bouquet shows a hint of VA and is dominated by coffee-scented, toasted
French oak over perfumed, plummy fruit and whilst it’s pleasant, it doesn’t seem
typically varietal. Smooth powdery tannins provide a solid backbone for this
medium-weight, supple wine with an agreeable complexity. It has a good mouth
feel, is food friendly and the flavour lingers on the palate nicely. Coffee over
plum with lots of black flavours, including char, aniseed etc. If you look
closely enough, there is a touch of unripe green tannins, but most drinkers
would not nice it and the wine is still very quaffable. There is tightrope
balance between oak and fruit. Rated as it Agreeable, it's ready to drink now
but will improve over the short term.
