Whistler 2002 Merlot Feb 04

The bouquet of plum, milk chocolate and mushroom cedar oak leads to a palate flavour profile that accurately reflects the aromas. The wine is well balanced with mid weight savoury fruit, a good backbone of fine grained dusty tannins and youthful refreshing oak. This is a well made wine that’s not at all flabby or soft (like many Merlots) and has deeply seated fruit and a persistent finish that builds slowly across the plate and finishes nice and dry leaving the plate wanting another sip. Approachable now, it will improve for a number of years and is rated as Recommended with *** for value at $23. I am not generally a Merlot fan but would happily drink this one.
