Warrabilla 2005 Reserve Shiraz July 06

The brooding bouquet shows spicy oak, hints of black pepper; it is black through and through with a touch of vanilla and menthol. A very drinkable, honest but simple wine with chewy tannins, crisp acid and deep, strong fruit that hits the palate with a touch of herbal character that does not detract from the inky black flavours of liquorice, black pepper, vanilla tar etc; it finishes dry with good length and persistence. No surprise that this is a full-bodied, firm and solid wine and whilst it's a bit warm on the palate, it's not hot. Rated as Recommended with **** for value, it should hit its peak in about four years.
