Warrabilla 2005 Reserve Durif July 06

The bouquet was sulking more after an hour than it had been when first opened, but there was evidence of dusty notes, menthol and dark fruits. A robust wine that's well-balanced for its size; fine unobtrusive powdery tannins solidly support lively acid and pure, deeply-seated strong fruit. No sweetness or heat despite the alcohol, its completely savoury and dry. Black from start to finish, aniseed, black chocolate,
blackcurrant/cherry and black spicy flavours finish with ample intensity and length.  This Charles Atlas baby is drinkable now but will be better after a five year sleep. Rated as Highly Recommended with ***** for value; Australian Durif doesn't come much better  than this one. Chewy and morish; its most enjoyable!
