Warrabilla 2003 Reserve Shiraz Nov 04
Nov 04
Another brooding big nose, with lots of oak influence,
blackberry, sweet plum, tarry coffee, chocolate and spearmint. A big, muscular
wine but not over the top, it is sweet and savoury with tarry blackberry, plum,
liquorice, chocolate and a layer of (green but not unripe) mint which all
finishes with a bitter chocolate edge. Dusty tannins are supporting rather than
intruding which means the wine can happily be consumed over the next few years.
Rated as Agreeable with *** for value, there is a fair amount of wine flavour
for the dollar but complexity is a bit one dimensional and despite its punch,
the fruit does not seem to have a huge amount of depth. I was able to look at
this over most of the day and there was no change to the wine after significant
air time.
