Vynfields 2005 Reserve Pinot Noir April 08 is sealed under screwcap. What am I doing reviewing Pinot? A sample was sent to me. The bouquet was initially completely inexpressive but did open to reveal earthy forest floor characters, red cherries, and loads of white pepper. The silky tannins are completely unobtrusive but they solidly back this lean wine that has a supple consistency and a well developed complexity. The sweet uptake moves into sour cherry, then hits the loads of white pepper and migrates into a sappy, slightly bitter finish. The flavour profile is just lovely and it finishes with good persistence and is very dry. Just the way Pinot should be. The pure fruit is doing all the talking but the fresh and lively acid makes a valuable contribution. Rated as Highly Recommended with *** for value, this is the sort of Pinot on would be happy to drink at any time.
