Voyager Estate 2003 Shiraz PlonkOz04

This wine contains 4% Viognier. It was matured in 80% French oak and 40% of the oak component was new and it is due for release early in 2005. Sweet strawberry, cherry and spice opens up well to reveal vanilla and ripe, soft fruit characters. The wine has a terrific mouth feel which is ably supported by silky but dusty tannins and the oak does a good job of supporting the fruit. Black cherry, blackberry, spice, chocolate, aniseed and mint finishes dry and the harmonious complexity is not only attractive but demands another sip. Consistency is supple and this is a very nice wine that is worth buying. Rated as Recommended with *** for value, the rating should improve around 2007 and beyond.
