Summerfield 2006 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon
VicFeb08 will sell for $43 when it is released on March 29 and is sealed under cork. The bouquet is very similar to the 2004 but the fruit seems to be slightly higher quality; it is tight and shows mocha and blueberry. The almost silky tannins are fine and unobtrusive, and solidly back this supple, muscular-weight, tight wine. The deep, strong fruit delivers blueberry, toasted oak, dried herbs and cigar box flavours that are intertwined between sweet and off-sweet layers. The finish has excellent length and persistence. It sits comfortably in the mouth and in time should become seamless. The best to date under this label, it is rated as Highly Recommended with *** for value, and had the toasted oak been less noticeable it would have been rated as Excellent with **** for value. It should peak between 2014 and 2020.
