Veronique Barossa Shiraz March 08

Another winner from Domenic Torzi. This guy just doesn't know how to make bad wine; thank God! It's sealed under screwcap and sells direct from the winery for $19. It's made by Dominic's for his next door neighbour, from grapes sourced from a number of vineyards in the region. This wine was a complete pig to assess. It was only bottled a couple of weeks ago and has shut down tighter than slum landlords wallet. Even after twelve hours, it didn't want to show much and threatening it with GBH didn't have any effect either. Still, at the twelve hour mark it was bloody drinkable, even if uncooperative. Here is what I can tell you, but no doubt there is more, and it will show far better once it wakes up from its slumber. The fruit is good quality and is driving the wine. The tannins are unobtrusive and silky. The acid is fresh and enables the wine to finish clean. It's muscular in weight, sweet on the uptake, but not too sweet, and with yummy flavours of "black stuff", it lingers well. Rated as Recommended with **** for value.
