Trevor Jones 2005 Dry Grown Barossa Shiraz June 08 sells for approximately $32 and is sealed under screwcap. The bouquet is rich, ripe and black with sweet and spicy notes including pepper and lots of mockery oak. The wine is well-balanced but the fruit seems to be lean at the moment, and is buried by the oak. The deep and pure fruit delivers sweet black flavours on the uptake, with coffee, mocha, chocolate and dried green herbs on the finish that fills the palate and lingers well. A muscular-weight wine with a soft consistency and a solid, layered, and tight structure; the complexity is well developed. It's approachable now but needs time for the oak to be absorbed. It improved with air time and was really enjoyable with a T-bone steak. Rated as Recommended with *** for value, the rating should improve as the wine enters its peak drinking window (in a few years) and should last until 2017.
