Trevor Jones 2004 Wild Witch Reserve Shiraz Nov 07

Is sealed under cork. The bottle is so heavy that it should be registered as a lethal weapon, and looking at the quality of the cork, no expense has been spared here either. The clean, brooding bouquet shows vanilla and mocha oak, together with hints of pepper, dark fruits, menthol and mint. A seriously good wine that has been built for the long haul, it is currently showing loads of oak, but there is enough fruit to eventually absorb it. It's a full-bodied, rich, firm, solid, and a very tight wine that needs time to build further complexity. The strong, deep, fruit is perfectly matched to the abundant, tight, powdery tannins and youthful acid. The acid cuts through the sweet fruit like a knife and negates some of the overt sweetness. Coffee and tarry oak, plum, chocolate, cherry, mint and dried herb flavours amble through the palate on a long walk of tannins, and finish clean and dry. Rated as Excellent with *** for value; come back and see it again in 2014.
