Torzi Matthews 2007 Schist Rock Shiraz May08 sells the $17 at cellar door and is sealed under screwcap. The bouquet is attractive and shows hints of addictive, nail varnish like characters with plum, dark spice, nutmeg and new car leather. The fruit is driving the wine but it is well-backed by fine, unobtrusive tannins. The flavours are strong and in the black spectrum; blackberry, aniseed, spices and dried green herbs. An ample-weight, solid wine with a supple consistency, it's a little short on the back palate but hopefully may fill out with a little bit of time. Rated as Recommended with **** for value, the rating may increase as the wine gains a little bottle age.
