Torzi Matthews 2006 Schist Rock Shiraz May 07

A fruit driven nose with cedary oak below, and menthol notes; its fruit driven, but it's good, clean, Eden Valley fruit. Blackberry, coffee, plum, and chocolate flavours combine to form an enjoyable flavour profile that has a good interaction between sweet and off-sweet flavours. Ample-weight with a soft, rich consistency and an agreeable complexity, it finishes short on the back palate, but at this price point who cares; it would be just great for sipping around a barbecue on a sunny afternoon. Rated as Acceptable with **** for value, put away a dozen until spring time and by then it should look better and rate as Recommended. At $180 a dozen direct from the winery including freight, you would be mad if you didn't buy any. Sealed with the screwcap.
