Torzi Matthews 2002 Frost Dodger Shiraz
A new label from the Eden Valley matured in a combination of
both French and American Oak and bottled in ROTE.
Initially the aroma was a bit of a concern as it seemed to
show some reduced sulphur characters but after awhile in the glass it blew off
to reveal an inviting complex aroma of cedar, sweet perfumed floral fruit and
chocolate.
Tannins are silky and ultra fine, almost unnoticeable; the
acid is youthful but it’s the intense fresh pure fruit that is doing all the
talking. It’s a clean, fresh well made muscular weight wine that’s harmonious
and has a well developed level of complexity and flavour. Chocolate, savoury red
and blue berry fruit, spicy pepper, star anise and plum combine to fill the
mouth with yummy flavours. An upmarket party in a glass that lingers well, its
rated as Highly Recommended with *** for value
at $40. Production is very limited and it’s mainly been sold to Sydney
restaurants so if you want any you had better be quick.
