Tim Smith Barossa MGS Jan 07

The bouquet certainly holds interest; it's meaty, spicy with jube jube fruit and menthol, and whilst most of the profile is in the black spectrum, it's not overdone. Smooth, dusty, tannins combine with fresh acid and deeply-seated strong fruit to form a well put together, muscular-weight, solid wine that is firm and has a supple mouth feel.  Blackberry/blackcurrant, aniseed, meaty characters, mint and dried herb flavours finish with good persistence. It's youthful but should improve in the short term. Rated as Highly Recommended with *** for value its worth tracking down for something different. Needs a good steak or a hearty casserole to show its best.
