Thorn Clarke 2003 Sandpiper The Blend Sept 05

Unlike the previous two wines included in this release, this one is sealed under Stelvin. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Shiraz; the bouquet was intriguing as it was dominated by plummy Merlot characters together with smoky coffee oak, mint and mushroom. On the uptake, the wine shows incredibly sweet plum and is a very much like a straight Merlot rather than a blend; other flavours include coffee, chocolate and a hint of menthol. With minimal unobtrusive tannins, this ample-weight wine is disgustingly easy to drink and just disappears. Whilst it is warm, almost cuddly and simplistic, it will certainly be a real crowd pleaser, especially by the glass or in a bistro situation. Rated Agreeable with *** for value
