Thorn Clarke 2003 Sandpiper Shiraz Sept
05
Smoky oak with plum dominating; a hint of pepper and
tar with a slight underlying green spectrum aroma noticeable in the
background. The palate shows a good intensity of ripe plum, coffee, bitter
chocolate with a slight unripe green character on the finish, which may
technically be a minor defect but does not detract from the wine. Well
balanced with unobtrusive tannins and fresh acid, this is very quafferable
now, but could be cellared for a couple of years. Ample-weight, it's
uncomplicated but offers good persistence and length for the price point. A
very drinkable result for the vintage, it is rated as
Agreeable with *** for value and would be perfect
with a barbecue.
