Thomson Estate 2002 Cabernet Merlot PlonkOz04

Another new winery I knew nothing about and this wine is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc which retails for about $22.25 a bottle.

The dusty, sweet strawberry fruit was slightly sulphurous is on opening. Smooth, fine, dusty tannins, balanced acid and obvious fruit produce a well constructed medium-weight, solidly structured wine with an agreeable complexity. The uptake is a ripe, with blackcurrant, blackberry, chocolate and finishes to green bean. Very drinkable for the price, it needs a few years to show its best. Rated as Recommended with **** for value.
