Tahbilk 1999 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Oct 04

Typical earthy Tabilk bouquet, it was also lifted with and perfumed with nutmeg spectrum spice and subtle vanillin nuances from the French oak. Smooth, chalky tannins are smooth and combine with deep, strong fruit to provide an excellent mouth feel and classy structure. Chocolate, mushroom, subtle coffee and blackberry flavours finish long and dry but the wine needs time to gain further complexity. Muscular-weight, it is sophisticated and has a certain elegance about itself. A fine wine indeed, it is an iron fist in a velvet glove and whilst its not inexpensive, it is worthy of consideration and for my tastes, the best wine not only in the current Tahbilk releases, but the best wine tasted out of the 32 I tried that day. Rated as Excellent with *** for value.
