Tahbilk 1994 Reserve Shiraz
Jan 05
The wine initially opened up with a fair, but not
overpowering dose of Brett but after a couple of hours in the glass, it was not
dominant (in fact it was hardy noticeable) and was in the realms of "adding
complexity" to the spice, pure light berry fruit and menthol char. Complex sweet
berry, plum, savory spicy flavours and mint flow through the palate with
reasonable length but the impact of the Brett is noticeable in the flavour
profile. The refreshing acid is still youthful and tannins have softened but
have a way to go before they are fully resolved. The wine is mid weight and has
some elegance about it. Rated as Highly Recommended, this is very much an olde
worlde style wine and as much as I normally enjoy Tahbilk wines, I can't say I
particularly enjoyed this one.
