Summerfield 2005 Reserve Shiraz July 07
The bouquet initially showed hints of lifted alcohol that blew off leaving pepper, cedar, violets and plum. A
very solid, slightly rustic structure; the almost powdery tannins slightly
overshadow the fruit, but given time, the tannins will integrate, and the
deeply-seated fruit should emerge. Assuming that occurs as expected, the
resulting wine should have some elegance. The enjoyable flavour profile shows plum,
violets, tar, pepper, oregano, and rich chocolate, it finishes with a touch of
alcoholic warmth. Muscular-weight with a firm consistency, solid structure and
diverse complexity this is another very credible wine from one of the best
Pyrenees producers. Rated as Recommended with *** for value, the rating should
improve as the wine enters its peak drinking window between 2010 and 2015;
sealed with a cork.
