Summerfield 2005 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon July 07

The bouquet shows a pleasant combination of sweet and spicy notes with blackcurrant, cedary, vanillin oak and spearmint. Deep, strong fruit, fresh acid, and loads of powdery tannins combine to form a full-bodied wine that is rock-solid; the construction is excellent and will ensure the wines longevity. Black fruits including plum, currant, and mint, with hints of vanilla; it tails off to black chocolate, all on a long, thumping finish. Whilst it's not like a varietal Coonawarra Cabernet, it's a very-drinkable wine and the best of the 2005 Summerfield releases. Rated as Highly Recommended with *** for value, the rating should increase as the wine reaches its peak drinking window between 2012 and 2018. Sealed with a cork.
