Summerfield 2004 Shiraz
Aug 06
The bouquet is brooding but shows plumb, spices and hints of coffee/mocha. The
wine is driven by abundant, pure fruit but solidly backed with enough
unobtrusive, smooth tannins to hold it together and produce a supple mouth-feel.
Blackcurrant/black cherry, plum, aniseed, and herbal cigar box flavours finish
with excellent persistence and punch. The flavour profile is attractive; it's
sweet on the uptake with a spicy mid-palate and finishes off savoury. The clean
and modern Shiraz, it's an ample-weight, very easy drinking wine that will
improve in the short term; this is more than just a crowd pleaser. Rated as
Recommended with **** for value, it is ready to drink now. Cost $23 from the
winery and sealed under screwcap.
