Summerfield 2004 Merlot
Aug 06
The bouquet shows plums and varnished oak characters which leads to a savoury
palate of plum, milk chocolate and spice, but there is herbal influence too,
possibly caused by a combination of mainly ripe, but some unripe fruit. Powdery
tannins provide a very solid backbone to this ample-weight wine with a supple
consistency. Rated as Agreeable with *** for value, it is the weakest wine in
the line up and the only one I did not enjoy, but then I rarely enjoy straight
Merlot. The wine is sealed under screwcap and sells
for $23 from the winery.
