Summerfield 2003 Reserve Shiraz
PlonkOz04
When I was at the winery last February, I remember Mark
commenting on the difficulty of the 2003 vintage so I wasn't expecting a huge
amount from these wines. This wine had just been bottled, so it was possible
that it was suffering from bottle shock.
The enough velvety tannins to hold the wine together and
youthful, balanced acid combines with pure fruit to deliver upfront blackberry,
plum, black cherry and massive amounts of mint. Ample-weight, the consistency is
soft whilst the complexity is well developed, and the structure solid. The very
attractive enough feel and means the wine can be consumed now but it does need a
little time to come together. I doubt it will be very long lived. Rated as
Highly Recommended with*** for value.
