Smallfry 2006 Barossa Shiraz July 07

The wine is sealed with a screwcap and is sourced from (Vine Vale) Barossa  fruit. Like many wines sealed with a screwcap, the bouquet was brooding and determined to show as little as possible. Even after hours in the glass, all I could find was like in the perfumed aromatic notes, milk chocolate and possibly a hint of plum. Smooth, fine, unobtrusive tannins combine with strong fruit and youthful, crisp acid to form an ample-weight, firm wine, with a solid consistency, and tight structure. The flavour profile is reasonably black and off-sweet, with blackberry (not overripe), plum, oregano, and dark chocolate. It needs time to show its best, but has all the components of being a high quality wine, so it's rated as Highly Recommended with *** for value. S
mallfry is consistently making good wine and could be a winery to watch closely.
