Sevenhill 1999 Seven Bros
Sesquicentenary
Aug 04
An unusual bouquet with a little VA that was continually
changing and very difficult to nail down but what was noticeably there was a an
earthy aroma, subtle chocolate, sweet and off sweet fruits together with a
reasonable hit of mint and menthol. The wine certainly makes the palate sit up
and take notice. Tannins are resolved and leaves the wine almost seamless but
there is enough grip noticeable after the wine goes done to provide a good long,
satisfying dry finish. It is no blockbuster either, only mid-weight and the
impression is this is a dignified wine with class and restraint. Rated as
Excellent, the flavour profile is true to
the bouquet. After some air time, liquorice came up and the finish got even
better. The six preceding Brother winemakers would be proud of the seventh
brother's (John May) efforts to celebrate their contribution to the winery. I
understand it is still available from the winery for $25 a bottle by the six
pack, at that price it gets ***** for value.
