Seppelt 1998 St Peters Shiraz Sept 05

With a touch of VA to tickle my nose, the bouquet is interesting and complex; it has an unusual combination of fresh fruit and slightly aged earthy characters with a touch of coconut and a fair wack of coco and coffee. The palate as beautiful; intense, fresh darkish (almost brambly) berry fruit with chocolate and Swiss brown mushroom characters. Just ample-weight, the smooth tannins are integrating well and provide excellent palate length. The wine is drinking comfortably now with no harsh edges, but no doubt it will continue to soften and take on aged characters. It has an interesting sweet and sour combination of flavours. Rated as Excellent, it is still reasonably tight but it has come a long way in the last 18 months, since I first tasted it. As the wine opened up, its real character emerged; it took on weight and the tannins came up to; it is likely to be long lived.
