Heritage 2005 Rossco’s Shiraz Jan 08

Schiller Vineyard 2004 Shiraz Grenache Feb 08

Hailing from the Barossa, the wine is sealed under screwcaps and sells for $20. The bouquet shows slightly volatile aromas with cedar, menthol, eucalyptus, mocha, and blackberry; it shows both sweet and off-sweet nuances. Unobtrusive silky tannins combine with strong, deeply-seated fruit to deliver a huge intensity of flavour. Muscular-weight with a supple consistency and solid structure, the complexity is uncomplicated and consumers will either love or hate the flavour profile. The sweet fruit is offset by spicy flavours; plum, eucalyptus and menthol are evident but dominated by blackberry and tar flavours. The wine finishes with a slightly steely character. Rated as Agreeable with **** for value; drink over the next five years.
