Winter Creek 2005 Shiraz SASept07 will sell for $30 via mail order when it is released in about six months and is sealed under screwcap. The bouquet is the direct opposite of the previous vintage; it is intense but very broody. A well-balanced wine; it is currently determined to show its structure rather than its charms. Silky, dusty, drying tannins combine with fresh acid, and pure, deep, strong fruit to form an ample-weight, tight, solid wine with a supple consistency that should become seamless in time. With spicy oak on the uptake and bright fruit showing through, it's off-sweet and food friendly. It's a damn good wine, let alone at the price. Rated as Highly Recommended with **** for value, the rating should increase as the wine enters its peak drinking window around 2013.
