Smallfry 2006 Eden Valley Shiraz SASept07 will sells for $28 at cellar door when it is released in April 2008 and is sealed under screwcap. The bouquet has a very unusual profile and initially exuded some plastic band aid type characters and coffee oak. It took six hours for the wine to start showing its true character, and by that stage the plastic band aid aroma had completely disappeared. Backed by smooth, powdery, unobtrusive tannins together with fresh acid, the fruit does not have a lot of generosity but to its credit, still manages to finish with good length and persistence. It's an elegant, tight, medium-weight wine with a supple consistency and an agreeable complexity. The palate shows plum, chocolate, blackberry, char, mint and finishes with shower sour cherry and clean acid. Rated as Recommended with *** for value, by the time the wine is released it could better.
