Reschke 1998 Empyren
PlonkOz04
These guys started life as Coonawarra farmers about 100 years
ago and in 1989 decided to plant vines. The fruit was sold to Mildara and in
1998 they kept back half the fruit to make the Empyren. Cropped at leas than 2.5
tons to the acre, the first release of this wines comes with a staggering $115
price tag. Madness, I though and then I tried the wine! A rich black fruited
bouquet with French vanillin oak and cedar which combines into a very attractive
package. Smooth tannins provide a silky, supple consistency and combine with
pure, deep fruit to form and excellent structure that is solid, seamless,
elegant and classy. The mouth feel is gorgeous and sexy. Ample-weight, the
complexity is well developed and harmonious and delivers blackcurrant,
chocolate, mint and vanilla. Stunningly good, this is a potential table lifter
and is rated as Excellent with ** for value.
Damn fine wine, pity about the price, I was luck enough to find some at $90 and
even at that price it was a marginal purchase.
