Rees Miller 2003 Thousand Hills Shiraz August 06

From the Upper Goulburn Valley, the wine has a single bottle price of $26. The bouquet shows toasty, spicy oak characters over blackberry, plum, pepper and chocolate; it's dark and ripe. There is nothing subtle about this one, but in its favour it's well-balanced with loads of powdery tannins and strong, deeply-seated fruit. Blackberry, charred oak, liquorice, pepper and time/oregano herb flavours fill every nook and cranny of the palate and finish long and persistent.  A full-bodied, very firm, solid wine with an agreeable complexity that is driven by a knockout, right hook of flavour. Rated as Recommended with *** for value, this is not for the faint of heart but those that like a BIG red will adore it. As the wine opened, it improved and was more enjoyable enjoyable with food; there is certainly enough fruit to absorb the oak. Not sure if its cheaper by the dozen, but if it is it would get **** for value. Contact the winery.
