Punters Corner 2005 Sovereign Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Jan 09

Sealed under Procork, it retails for around $65 a bottle. The bouquet is as lovely as it is serious with dark fruits and spicy, leathery oak. The wine is well balanced but the abundant, dusty tannins currently bury the deeply-seated fruit. The noticeably spicy oak dominates the off-sweet fruit that finishes bone dry. Loads of mint and tobacco also show. Ample in weight, it is firm, solid and tight; a quality wine, it has all the components, but needs time. Rated as Highly Recommended with *** for value, the rating will improve when it is in its peak drinking window between 2014 and 2021.
