Punters Corner 2002 Spartacus
Reserve Shiraz Aug 04
Barrel fermented and only five hundred
cases made, so this wine will be in demand despite its RRP of $59. Dark purple
in colour with a bright hue, the nose is brooding but all class. A stunning
wine with ripe, intense, powerful cherry, mulberry, plum, chocolate, mint and
aniseed flavours that finishes with incredible persistence
and length. Tannins are ultra-fine, smooth and drying, the acid is fresh and they
combine to form a full bodied wine with a firm but supple consistency that is a
big steel sock to the kisser with a velvet glove. Damn good wine now but it’s a
criminal waste to drink it at this stage, as with time it should gain
complexity as it peaks around 2009+. Rated as Excellent
with ** for value.
