Picardy 2003 Pinot
PlonkOz04
This winery used to have a
reputation for Brett, but based on the wines I have seen over the last two
years, they appear to have cleaned up their act.
The bouquet of this wine was a
joy to sniff and reasonably subtle, showing sweet strawberry with little of
feral characteristics; it's clean and has good complexity. Medium-weight, the
consistency is supple and supported by smooth tannins and the pure, red
flavoured fruit delivers milk chocolate, dark chocolate and dark fruit
characters that finish with good length and persistence. Although it is earthy,
it is a clean wine and the acid cuts through the sweetness making it very
drinkable and whilst it's okay now it will gain complexity as it peaks around
2006 and beyond. Rated as Highly Recommended
with *** for value.
