Orlando 2002 Gramp’s Cabernet Merlot Feb 05

A “technically interesting” bouquet; initially it was extremely dusty but with time on the glass it subsided leaving plum and blackcurrant fruit together with a hint of tomato leaf; however although the nose makes one believe the wine will be silky smooth, the oak traits seem raw. Abundant, chalky tannins combine with green, unripe tasting oak to overshadow the plum and blackcurrant fruit. With time, the wine will improve but it will never be exactly great. Rated as Acceptable with *** for value, this is one of a few disappointing wines from Orlando.
