Orlando 1999 Jacaranda Ridge December 05

The bouquet of this wine exhibits very ripe blackcurrant fruit, hints of tar, and mint; it seems far blacker than previous vintages. Smooth, dusty drying tannins support a rock solid structure, but this wine seems to be much more approachable than its predecessors. Full-bodied, it packs a serious wallop of fruit and whilst the wine is well balanced with fresh acid, it doesn't seem like it has been made for the long term. Whether that is a result of the very ripe fruit, or the tannin structure I am not sure, but this is very different to previous vintages of this wine. More like a “nice big red” rather than a top shelf varietal Cabernet, it is rated as Highly Recommended with *** for value - drink over the next few years.
