Old Plains 2005 Power of One Nov 06

Another Shiraz sourced from Adelaide Plains fruit and made by the very talented Domenic Torzi; its sealed under screwcap and costs $30 from their winery. The bouquet shows coffee oak, black notes and plum with a fair amount of menthol. The wine is well crafted with a pleasant mouth feel and shows smart construction with fine, tight tannins which are perfectly matched to fresh acid, and strong fruit. Palate flavour is very intense with blackberry, aniseed, loads of coffee oak essence, cool climate pepper, and oregano on the finish. It's a muscular, firm, solid wine with a harmonious complexity and whilst it is not my favourite type of flavour profile, that's a personal thing and many will love it. Even though it's black, it's not at all overripe. Rated as Highly Recommended with *** for value, it should take around 2011+.
