Noon 2001 Eclipse
March 05
 An inky black
nose showing heavily roasted coffee beans, dark chocolate, mushroom/clove and a
menthol lift. A big uptake that climbs and expands across the palate; the wine
is well supported by abundant, dusty/chalky, chewy tannins that are well matched
to deeply-seated, powerful fruit. A black spectrum profile wine with aniseed,
coffee, liquorice, blackberry, chocolate, mint, meat, plum and clove flavours
which is underpinned by fresh acid that cut through the sweetness; the wine
finishes long and dry. Full-throttle but perfectly proportioned, this is as big
as they come and a love it or hate it style.
Interestingly
enough, there is no information on the label as to where the grapes come from,
or what sort of grapes are in the wine. You need the newsletter from the
information.
