Mt Surmon 2003 Clare Valley Reserve Nebbiolo May 07

After our disastrous visit to this winery, Brian tried to save his reputation of being a good judge of wineries and wine by giving me this bottle to try. EA dominates the nose but there were some more attractive characters below. Drying, powdery tannins stand out slightly over the lean fruit in this medium-weight, solid wine that needs Italian food to show its best. Thankfully the EA does not show on the very savour flavour profile that has some bitterness on the finish, Brian enjoyed it more than I did. Rated as Recommended with **** for value it originally cost $20 and is sealed in a screwcap.
