Morris 2001 Rutherglen Shiraz
May 04
From the first sniff, it was obvious this was a big step
above the 2000 vintage of this wine. The bouquet showing interesting nuances,
with spice, sweet fruit, savoury scents and perfumed soap. It is a mid weight
wine with clean fruit and more than its fair share of dusty, but smooth
tannins. Savoury on the uptake and mid palate, it finishes sweet with counter
drying tannins. Complexity is good for the price point with spice, plum, bitter
chocolate and black coffee flavours, and it will go well with a large range of
food. Rated as Recommended with *** for value,
it is a good restaurant or bistro wine that is easy drinking now but will
improve in the short term.
