Marius 2004 Simpatico Shiraz May 06

Matured in a combination of French and American oak and sealed under a screw cap. A primary, floral bouquet that is dominated by fresh fruit and shows loads of plums, black spectrum fruits, dark chocolate, coffee and a noticeable menthol lift. An ample-weight wine; the tannins are solid but very fine, and perfectly matched to the unobtrusive fresh acid and deeply-seated fruit combining to form a well-balanced, solid wine with an attractive mouth feel. The flavour profile is interesting and shows excellent complexity with a combination of primarily off-sweet flavours competing against some contrasting sweetness; olive and plum flavours with hints of pepper move into the coffee spectrum on the finish, which is both long and intense. Rated as Recommended with **** for value, the rating should improve as the wine peaks in about three years time, but it’s so damn drinkable now, it’ll be hard to keep your hands off it.
