Tarry black nose withy noticeable oak characters, subtle varnish, and black coffee. Abundant tannins are offset by lively acid; the alcohol pokes it head out and seems to unbalance (and disjoint) the wine and make the fruit seem like it is not up to the task. The flavour profile is black; blackberry, tar, and star anise. Muscular in weight, it's firm, solid and has a simple level of complexity. Rated as Agreeable with *** for value.
