Lunar Wines 2004 Shiraz April 06

The bouquet initially was dominated by coffee/vanillin oak with dark fruits, a touch of pepper; it was a black bouquet. There is nothing overblown or extracted here. It's ample weight and maintains some elegance; unobtrusive tannins are fine-grained, powdery and smooth, and provide a solid backing and firm structure; with nothing sticking out, the balance is harmonious. A pleasant contrast of sweet and spicy flavours are provided by the plum, pepper and coffee but there is also some stalkiness.  The winemaking is good and this label is worth watching. A very drinkable wine, it has reasonable length and persistence and is Rated as Recommended with *** for vale at an RRP of $30.
